Unfortunately this concept was not able to be applied to the new 28th Street store due to project timing. However, we were asked to pursue this idea further and were given the opportunity to apply the concept to a store they are planning in northern Michigan. “We’ve never seen a concept like this before, it’s well done.” -Meijer Corporation We are looking forward to the concept implementation through construction, and anticipate this new parking lot design to become widely accepted.
We then applied the concept to Target stores with the same design concepts integrated into their store sites, meeting the same goals of pedestrian safety. After concept development for two of their existing store sites, the plans were presented to Target Corporation and received encouraging feedback.
“Everyone likes the reduction of pedestrian & vehicle conflicts.” -Target CorporationThe goal of the concept to improve overall pedestrian safety was achieved through more purposeful separation of vehicles and pedestrians. By eliminating the typical entry door driveway, and changing it to a sidewalk allows the store guests to feel much safer. This concept also provides sidewalks within smaller separated parking lots which allows guests to return to their vehicles without walking in a roadway.
“Interesting Concept.” -Spartan StoresOverall we are very pleased with this idea, and have received positive feedback from business entities such as Target Corporation, Meijer Corporation, and Spartan Stores, along with governmental review agencies and numerous colleagues. We hope to see this idea become “the new standard”.
